Using The Gorski-CENAPS Model of Relapse Prevention Therapy to Manage Sugar & Processed Food Addictions
Presented by Bitten Jonsson, Leg.SSK, Reg.Nurse, ACRPS from Sweden
Last year serious mood and thought disorders affected nearly 30 million people in the United States. On average though, less than 50% of adults and youths experiencing these mental illnesses received some sort of treatment. As the need to advocate for more services is evident, ensuring that those who receive care stay on track to living fulfilling lives is equally important. Whether through pharmacological, psychotherapeutic, or a combination of these interventions, these treatments restore lives and help this marginalized population thrive in their communities with dignity. However, oftentimes these treatments are so effective that a person facing these struggles begins doing well, feeling better and loses sight of the plan that got them to this point of success. Decompensation is commonplace for those that remain unaware of their individual relapse process and that reenter the pattern of medication noncompliance or the abandonment of the daily routine that supports them. The goal of this presentation is to help providers prepare to teach their clients how to identify and manage this process.
The video content was recorded at the Preventing Relapse Symposium, Starting Addiction Treatment and Recovery Off Right on April 21st-22nd, 2023 held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The goal of the Symposium was for attendees to learn and enhance techniques across all levels of care with proven and practical applications of the Gorski-CENAPS Model of Recovery and Relapse Prevention, implemented with a wide variety of programs, clients, and special populations. Sessions were designed to be applicable and informative to providers and consumers at all skill levels and various lengths of personal recovery.
